Shiva Yajur Mantra, also famous as Karpur Gauram Karunavtaaram is one of the most famous mantras that any Hindu must have heard. It is an ancient Sanskrit Shloka related to Lord Shiva and a popular aarti in Shaivism. The mantra is found in Yajurveda, one of the four canonical texts of Hindu Dharma, the Vedas.

Lord Shiva, one of Trinity Gods also known as Shankar, Rudra, Bholenath, Nilkantha, and Mahadeva is the most popular Hindu deity. He is also known as the Destroyer or the Transformer according to Hindu methodologies & Puranas. The word Shiva signifies the auspicious. Lord Shiva roots out sin and terror and is the bestower of earthly happiness, promoter of good, and auspiciousness. Shiva is also called Sankara which means doer of good. Shiva takes one beyond the three bodies (Tripura), gross, subtle, and causal that envelope the Jiva or the embodied soul. He is hence the Hara or the remover of all evil and the idol of renunciation.

Shiva Yajur Mantra (Karpur Gauram Karunavtaram) is a powerful mantra usually chanted during the time of arati. It is one of the most popular Hindu mantras related to Lord Shiva.

Of all the mantras dedicated to Lord Shiva, Karpur Gauram Karunavtaaram is considered as pure as a white lotus. It is said devotee chanting this mantra feels spiritual ecstasy as this mantra glorifies Shiva in the highest order. Let us understand what it means.

Meaning of Karpur Gauram Karunavtaram Mantra

karpūragauraṁ – The one who is as pure/white as camphor (Karpur).

karuṇāvatāraṁ – The personification of compassion.

sansārsāram – The one who is the essence of the world.

bhujagendrahāram – The one with the serpent king as his garland.

sadāvasantaṁ hṛdayāravinde – Always residing in the lotus-like heart. Where, Hridaya aravinde means, ‘in the heart, that is (as pure as) lotus’. Lotus, though born in the muddy waters, is untouched by the mud around it. Similarly, Lord Shiva always (Sada) resides (Vasantham) in the hearts of beings which are not affected by worldly matters.

शरीर कपूर की तरह गोरा है, जो करुणा के अवतार है, जो शिव संसार के मूल हैं। और जो महादेव सर्पराज को गले में हार के रूप में धारण किए हुए हैं, ऐसे हमेशा प्रसन्न रहने वाले भगवान शिव को अपने ह्रदय कमल में शिव-पार्वती को एक साथ नमस्कार करता हूँ।

आरती के बाद इस मंत्र के बोलने के पीछे की वजह भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती के विवाह से जुड़ी है। धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, जगत के पालनकर्ता भगवान विष्णु ने महादेव और माता पार्वती के विवाह के समय कर्पूरगौरं मंत्र को स्वयं बोला था, जिसमें भगवान शिव के विकराल और दिव्य स्वरूप का सार समाहित है।

इस बात से सभी लोग बखूबी वाकिफ हैं कि हिंदू धर्म में एेसे बहुत से मंत्र होते हैं, जिनका प्रयोग आरती के बाद किया जाता है. जी हाँ, बहुत से ऐसे मंत्र जो आरती के खत्म होने के बाद कहे जाते हैं. ऐसे में आज हम आपको भगवान शिव की स्तुति से जुड़ा एक एेसा ही मंत्र बताने जा रहे हैं. कहा जाता है कि ज्योतिष शास्त्र के अनुसार इस मंत्र से भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती की स्तुति करते हैं और यह मंत्र भी आरती खत्म होने के बाद बोला जाता है.

सदा बसन्तं हृदयारबिन्दे भबं भवानीसहितं नमामि..

आइए अब जानते हैं इस मंत्र का अर्थ - कहते हैं कि इस मंत्र से शिवजी की स्तुति की जाती है और इसका अर्थ कुछ इस प्रकार है -

कर्पूरगौरम- कर्पूर के समान गौर वर्ण वाले.

करुणावतारं- करुणा के जो साक्षात् अवतार हैं.

संसारसारं- समस्त सृष्टि के जो सार हैं.

भुजगेंद्रहारम्- इस शब्द का अर्थ है जो सांप को हार के रूप में धारण करते हैं.

सदा वसतं हृदयाविन्दे भवंभावनी सहितं नमामि- इसका अर्थ है कि जो शिव, पार्वती के साथ हमेशा मेरे हृदय में निवास करते हैं, उनको मेरा नमन है.

वहीं आइए अब जानते हैं मंत्र का पूरा अर्थ- जो कर्पूर जैसे गौर वर्ण वाले हैं, करुणा के अवतार हैं, संसार के सार हैं और भुजंगों का हार धारण करते हैं, वे भगवान शिव माता भवानी सहित मेरे ह्रदय में सदैव निवास करें और उन्हें मेरा नमन है.

आपको यह भी बता दें कि आखिर क्यों किया जाता है इस मंत्र का जाप-  यह माना जाता है कि इस मंत्र का उच्चारण शिव-पार्वती विवाह के समय विष्णु द्वारा गाई हुई है और यही कारण है कि इसको इतना महत्व दिया जाता है.

शिव यजुर मन्त्र का जप करने की विधि –

भगवान शिव की तस्वीर और मूर्ति के सामने बैठ कर शिव जी का ध्यान करें और फिर मन्त्र जप शुरू करें . इस मन्त्र का जप १०८ बार प्रतिदिन नियमित रूप से पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ करें .यदि आप इस मन्त्र का जप १०८ बार न कर सके तो ५४ बार या २७ बार भी कर सकते हैं . इस मन्त्र का जप करने से आपको अच्छी सेहत / अच्छा स्वास्थ्य ,धन-दौलत मिलेगी और आपकी सभी मनोकामनाएं पूरी होंगी.

शिव यजुर मंत्र / महादेव मन्त्र एक प्राचीन संस्कृत मन्त्र हैं जो भगवान शिव जी से संबंधित है.  ये मन्त्र यजुर्वेद से लिया गया है और इसे शिव स्तुति कहा जाता है.

भावार्थ –

कर्पूर गौरं – जो कपूर की तरह शुद्ध / श्वेत है .

करुणावतारम – जो करुणा के अवतार हैं.

संसार सारं  – जो दुनिया का सार है.

भुजगेन्द्र हारम  – जिसने गले में माला के रूप में नागराज धारें हैं.

सदा वसंतं – जो हमेशा रहने वाले हैं.

हृदयारविन्दे – दिल के कमल में .

भवं भवानी – हे भगवान और देवी ( सती / माँ पार्वती ) .

सहितं नमामि – आप दोनों को मेरा नमन.

According to Hindu Mythology Lord Shiva saved the moon 🌙 from the curse of Daksha!

Nakshatras are considered to be the daughters of Daksha and they were all married to the Moon! And the moon journeys through each of the 27 nakshatras – but was more attached to Rohini nakshatra and spent more time with her! The other nakshatras felt isolated and complained to their father Daksha who cursed the moon!
