सोलह सोमवार व्रत कथा

सोमवार व्रत तीन प्रकार का होता है , प्रति सोमवार व्रत, सौम्य प्रदोष व्रत और सोलह सोमवार का व्रत। इन सभी व्रतों के लिए एक ही विधि होती है। सावन सोमवार व्रत सूर्योदय से प्रारंभ कर तीसरे पहर तक किया जाता है। शिव पूजा के बाद सोमवार व्रत की कथा सुननी आवश्यक है।

सोमवार व्रत कथा

हिंदू पौराणिक ग्रंथों में सोमवार व्रत के महत्व का वर्णन कथा के जरिये किया गया है। कथा कुछ इस प्रकार है।

बहुत समय पहले की बात है कि किसी नगर में एक साहूकार रहता था। वह बहुत ही धर्मात्मा साहूकार था और भगवान शिव का भक्त भी। हर सोमवार भगवान शिव की उपासना करना और विधिनुसार उपवास रखना उसका नियम था। धन-धान्य से उसका घर भरा हुआ था लेकिन उसे एक बड़ा भारी दुख भी था। वह यह कि उसकी कोई संतान नहीं थी।

एक दिन क्या हुआ कि माता-पार्वती उस शिव भक्त साहूकार के बारे भगवान शिव से बोलीं कि यह तो आपका भक्त है, बड़ा धर्मात्मा भी है, दान-पुण्य करता रहता है, इसकी आत्मा भी बिल्कुल पवित्र है फिर आप इसकी मनोकामना को पूर्ण क्यों नहीं करते। तब भगवान शिव बोले, इस संसार में सबको अपने कर्मों का फल भोगना पड़ता है, इसके दुख का कारण इसके पूर्व जन्म में किये गये कुछ पाप हैं। तब मां पार्वती बोली मुझसे अपने इस भक्त की पीड़ा नहीं देखी जाती आप इसे पुत्र प्राप्ति का वरदान दें। अब मां पार्वती की जिद्द के आगे भगवन मजबूर हो गये और साहूकार को पुत्र रत्न की प्राप्ति का वरदान दे दिया लेकिन साथ ही कहा कि यह बालक केवल 12 वर्ष तक ही जीवित रहेगा।

अब संयोगवश साहूकार भी ये सब बातें सुन रहा था। उसे न तो भगवान शिव के वरदान पर खुशी हुई और न ही दुख। समय आने पर उसकी संतान हुई लेकिन साहूकार को तो पता था इसकी सांसे कितनी लंबी है। फिर भी साहूकार ने धर्म-कर्म के कार्यों को जारी रखा और थोड़ा बड़ा होने पर लड़के के मामा को बुलाकर उसके साथ काशी शिक्षा पाने के लिये भेज दिया, साहूकार ने उन्हें बहुत सारा धन भी दिया और कहा कि रास्ते में यज्ञ हवन करते हुए जाना और ब्राह्मणों को दान-दक्षिणा भी देना।

साहूकार के कहे अनुसार वे रास्ते में सच्चे मन से यज्ञ हवन करते हुए जा रहे थे कि रास्ते में एक नगर में राजा अपनी कन्या का विवाह करवा रहा था, वहीं जिससे कन्या का विवाह तय हुआ वह एक आंख से काना था और इस बात को राजा से छुपाया गया था, पोल खुलने के डर से लड़के वालों ने मामा भानजे को पकड़ लिया और भानजे को काने दुल्हे के स्थान पर मंडप में बैठा कर शादी करवा दी गई अब लड़के ने मौका पाकर राजकुमारी के दुप्पटे पर सच्चाई लिख दी, जिससे बात राजा तक भी पंहुच गई। उसने अपनी कन्या को न भेजकर बारात को वापस लौटा दिया। उधर मामा भानजा काशी की ओर बढ़ गये।

अब लड़के की शिक्षा भी संपन्न हो गई और उसकी आयु भी 12 वर्ष की हो गई। शिक्षा पूरी होने के कारण उन्होंने काशी में एक बड़े यज्ञ का आयोजन किया लेकिन लड़के की तबीयत खराब हो गई तो उसे मामा ने आराम करने के लिये भेज दिया। चूंकि उसका समय पूरा हो चुका था इसलिये लेटते ही लड़के की मृत्यु हो गई। भानजे को मृत देख मामा की हालत खराब वह विलाप करने लगा। संयोगवश भगवान शिव और मां पार्वती वहीं से गुजर रहे थे। इस रूदन को देखकर मां पार्वती से रहा नहीं गया और भगवान शिव से अनुरोध किया कि इसके दुख को दूर करें। जब दुख का कारण भगवान शिव ने देखा तो कहा कि यह तो उसी साहूकार का लड़का है जिसे मैनें ही 12 वर्ष की आयु का वरदान दिया था अब तो इसका समय पूरा हो गया है। तब मां पार्वती जिद्द पर अड़ गईं कि इसके माता पिता को जब यह खबर प्राप्त होगी तो वे बिल्कुल भी सहन नहीं कर पायेंगें, अत: आप इस लड़के को जीवन दान दें। तब भगवान शिव ने लड़के को जीवित कर दिया।

अब लड़के के मामा की खुशी का ठिकाना न रहा, शिक्षा पूर्ण हो चुकी थी इसलिये वे अपने नगर लौटने लगे तो रास्ते में जिस नगर में उसका विवाह हुआ था वह राजा यज्ञ करवा रहा था वे भी उसमें शामिल राजा ने लड़के को पहचान लिया और अपनी पुत्री को उसके साथ भेज दिया। उधर साहूकार और उसकी पत्नी अन्न जल छोड़ चुके थे और संकल्प कर चुके थे कि यदि उन्हें पुत्र की मृत्यु का समाचार मिला तो वे जीवित नहीं रहेंगें। उसी रात सपने साहूकार को भगवान शिव ने दर्शन दिये और कहा कि हे भक्त तुम्हारी श्रद्धा व भक्ति को देखकर, सोमवार का व्रत रखने व कथा करने से मैं प्रसन्न हूं और तुम्हारे पुत्र को दीर्घायु का वरदान देता हूं।

अगले ही दिन पुत्र को देखकर खुशी के मारे उनकी आंखे झलक आयी और साहूकार ने भगवान शिव व माता पार्वती को नमन किया।

कुल मिलाकर कथा से सबक मिलता है कि व्यक्ति को कभी भी धर्म के मार्ग से नहीं हटना चाहिये, क्योंकि भगवान भक्त की परीक्षा लेते रहते हैं। सोमवार का व्रत करने व कथा सुनने पढ़ने से व्रती की मनोकामनाएं अवश्य पूर्ण होती हैं।

सोमवार व्रत विधि

सोमवार का व्रत भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिये किया जाता है। माना जाता है कि लगातार सोलह सोमवार व्रत करने से समस्त इच्छाएं पूर्ण होती हैं। विशेषकर अविवाहित लड़कियां अपनी इच्छा का वर पाने के लिये सोलह सोमवार का व्रत रखती हैं। सोमवार का व्रत रखने की विधि इस प्रकार है।

पौराणिक ग्रंथो में सोमवार के व्रत की विधि का वर्णन करते हुए बताया गया है कि इस दिन व्यक्ति को प्रात: स्नान कर भगवान शिव को जल चढाना चाहिये और भगवान शिव के साथ माता पार्वती की पूजा भी करनी चाहिये। पूजा के बाद सोमवार व्रत की कथा को सुनना चाहिये। व्रती को दिन में केवल एक समय ही भोजन करना चाहिये। आम तौर पर सोमवार का व्रत तीसरे पहर तक होता है यानि के शाम तक ही सोमवार का व्रत रखा जाता है। सोमवार का व्रत प्रति सोमवार भी रखा जाता है, सौम्य प्रदोष व्रत और सोलह सोमवार व्रत भी रखे जाते हैं। सोमवार के सभी व्रतों की विधि एक समान ही होती है।

मान्यता है कि चित्रा नक्षत्रयुक्त सोमवार से आरंभ कर सात सोमवार तक व्रत करने पर व्यक्ति को सभी तरह के सुख प्राप्त होते हैं। इसके अलावा सोलह सोमवार का व्रत मनोवांछित वर प्राप्ति के लिये किया जाता है। अविवाहित कन्याओं के लिये यह खास मायने रखता है।

ENGLISH VERSION OF SOMVAR VRAT KATHA

Once there lived a wealthy merchant in a city. He always had immense wealth and prosperity. But despite all the worldly possessions, he remained sad because he had no son. He regularly observed Monday fast to have a son. He used to go to the Shiva temple and worshipped there Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with full faith. Goddess Parvati was pleased at his devotion. She implored Lord Shiva and said, My Lord, this wealthy merchant is your faithful devotee. He regularly observes Monday fast but still he has no son. Please fulfil his desire. Hearing the implorings of Parvati, Lord Shiva said, Let your desire be fulfilled. I grant him a boon. He will be the father of a son, but Why but my Lord? asked Parvati. Lord Shiva said, but he will live for twelve years only".

Fortunately, this wealthy merchant could hear their conversation. As time passed on, the merchants wife gave birth to a beautiful son. He celebrated his sons birth with great pomp and show and distributed food, clothes and money among the poor. All prayed for his sons long and happy life. But the merchant was still sad because he knew that his son would not live beyond twelve years. Yama, the god of Death, spares none. Knowing what the situation was, the merchant started observing the Monday fast with greater zest and there was no let up in the worship of Lord Shiva. He practised all the rites of worship.

At the age of eleven, the merchants son looked quite smart and mature. All desired that he should be married to a beautiful girl. The merchants wife also wanted her sons marriage. She Insisted for it again and again. The merchant did not agree to this proposal. He sent for his brother-In-law and said, Accompany my son to Kashiji. Arrange for his best spiritual knowledge. Take enough money from my treasure. Arrange devotional gatherings on your way to Kashiji at every halt and distribute alms among the beggars.

The merchants son started his journey for Kashi with his maternal uncle. They arranged devotional gatherings and distributed clothes at every halting camp. They also arranged best eats for the Brahmans and made enough offerings to them. One day they made a halt at a capital of a king. The kings daughters marriage was to take place that day. The marriage party had already reached the city. The bridegrooms party was terribly disturbed because the bridegroom was blind, of one eye. They were in search of a beautiful boy to replace him.

The bridegrooms father sent his men in search of a beautiful boy. The men spotted the merchants son who was camping in an inn with his maternal uncle. The bridegrooms father was a rich person. He said to the merchants maternal uncle, My prestige is at stake. I need a handsome bridegroom in place of my one-eyed son. I shall give enough wealth if your ward agrees to have a temporary marriage with the kings daughter. He shall be free immediately after the marriage ceremony is over.

The merchants brother-in-law convinced his sisters son for a temporary marriage. The brides party praised their luck when they saw a handsome bridegroom with the marching band at the head of the marriage procession. The merchants son and the kings daughter were married around the holy fire. At the time of departure, the merchants son picked his brides scarf and wrote, Now we are husband and wife. I am not the son of a king. I am the son of a rich merchant. I was on way to Kashiji for spiritual studies. Your real bridegroom is blind of one eye. The bride noticed her bridegroom writing something on the scarf. She could not read his message at that time. When the marriage party was about to depart, the bride read the message.

She was shocked to know the reality. She refused to accompany with the one-eyed bridegroom. The marriage party returned without a bride. The merchants son reached Kashiji and devoted himself fully to the spiritual studies. His maternal uncle arranged devotional gatherings and gave donations everyday for the well-being of his sisters son.

On the last day of the twelfth year, the merchants son felt pain in the chest. His maternal uncle was performing the religious rites as per his routine. As he went inside the room, he found the boy dead. He was full of grief, but kept silent as the Brahmans would not accept food from such a house. With courage, he completed his routine. When his routine was over, he started crying. Many people gathered around him and shared his grief.

Fortunately, Lord Shiva and Parvati were also passing by that house. When Parvati heard the cries and beating of breast, her motherly compassion got aroused. She was a mother, after all. Having known the facts, she said to Lord Shiva, My dear Sire, please ask Yama to return his life. Yama is always at your command. Please do this favour to me. You are the protector of all creatures. Lord Shiva agreed and sprinkled Ganga water on the dead body. The boy got up as if he was making an excuse for sleep. The spiritual education of the merchants son was over.

They started their journey homeward. They arranged spiritual discourses and distributed aims among the needy throughout their way. Now, they were back in the city where this boy was married. The king recognised the boy immediately. He took him to his palace with full honour and on an auspicious day, he arranged to happy departure for his daughter. He also gave adequate dowry. The merchants son reached his city along with his bride. His father could not believe it. He was sitting on the roof of a big mansion with his wife, waiting for his son. They had decided that they would not come down until their son supported them himself; otherwise they would commit suicide by jumping down the roof. So the merchants son along with his bride went up to the roof. They touched their feet. The merchant and his wife were very happy to see the couple.

शिव पुराण

सभी पुराणों में शिव पुराण को सबसे महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। इसमें भगवान शिव के कल्याणकारी स्वरुप के गुणगान सहित उनकी पूजा-पद्धितियों का भी वर्णन किया गया है। शिव-महिमा, पूजा-पद्धतियों के अलावा शिक्षाप्रद कहानियों का भी संयोजन किया गया है। शिवपुराण में 24 हजार श्लोक मिलते हैं जो सात संहिताओं में विभक्त हैं। माना जाता है कि जो भी इस शिवपुराण के अनुसार भगवान शिव की पूजा करता है या फिर इस शिवपुराण का पाठ करता है, करवाता है और पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ शिव पुराण के पाठ को सुनता है भगवान शिव उसका कल्याण करते हैं। महाशिवरात्री के अवसर पर इसका पाठ करवाना बहुत ही लाभकारी व फलदायक माना जाता है।

शिवपुराण पूजा विधि

पूजा के दिन प्रात: स्नानादि नित्य कर्मों से निवृत होकर पवित्र हो जायें तत्पश्चात पूजास्थल पर भगवान शिव, माता पार्वती और नंदी को पवित्र जल अर्पित करें। शिवलिंग पर मिट्टी के बर्तन में पवित्र जल भरकर ऊपर से बिल्वपत्र, आक व धतूरे के पुष्प, चंदन, चावल आदि के साथ चढायें। यदि नजदीक कोई शिवालय न हो तो शुद्ध गीली मिट्टी से ही शिवलिंग बनाकर उसकी पूजा भी की जा सकती है। महाशिवरात्रि पर व्रत के साथ रात्रि जागरण करना चाहिये व शिवपुराण का पाठ सुनना चाहिये। अगले दिन सवेरे जौ, तिल, खीर और बिल्वपत्र का हवन करके व्रत को समाप्त करना चाहिये।

शिवपुराण पूजा के दौरान इन बातों का भी रखें ध्यान

जो भी शिवपुराण कथा करता है उसे कथा प्रारंभ करने से एक दिन पहले ही व्रत रखने के लिये बाल, नाखून इत्यादि कटवा लेने चाहिये। क्योंकि कथा समाप्ति तक किसी भी प्रकार का क्षौर कर्म नहीं किया जाता। कथा सुनने वाले भी ध्यान रखें कि देर से पचने वाला अर्थात दाल, तला हुआ भोजन, मसूर, बासी अन्न आदि खाकर भी शिवपुराण को नहीं सुनना चाहिये। कथा श्रोताओं को सबसे पहले कथा वाचक से दीक्षा ग्रहण करनी चाहिये। दीक्षा लेने के बाद ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करना, जमीन पर सोना, पत्तल में खाना और प्रतिदिन कथा समाप्त होने के बाद ही भोजन करना चाहिये। शिवपुराण कथा का व्रत जो भी लेता है उसे दिन में एक ही बार जौ, तिल या चावल का भोजन ग्रहण करना चाहिये, जिसने सिर्फ कथा सुनने के लिये व्रत किया हो वह प्याज, लहसुन, हींग, गाजर, मादक वस्तुओं का सेवन न करे। कथा करने वाला काम क्रोध से बचे, ब्राह्मण व साधु-संतो की निंदा भी उसे नहीं करनी चाहिये। गरीब, रोगी, पापी भाग्यहीन एवं नि:संतानों को शिवपुराण की कथा जरुर सुननी चाहिये। कथा समाप्ति को एक उत्सव के रुप में मनाना चाहिये भगवान शिव व शिवपुराण की पूजा करनी चाहिये, कथावाचक की पूजा कर उन्हें दान-दक्षिणा देकर संतुष्ट करना चाहिये। कथा सुनने आये ब्राह्मणों का भी आदर सत्कार कर उन्हें भी दान-दक्षिणा दी जानी चाहिये।

Om Jai Shiv Omkara is famous Shiva Aarti.

Lord Shiva is 'shakti' or power, Shiva is the destroyer, the most powerful god of the Hindu pantheon and one of the godheads in the Hindu Trinity.

Known by many names - Mahadeva, Mahayogi, Pashupati, Nataraja, Bhairava, Vishwanath, Bhava, Bhole Nath - Lord Shiva is perhaps the most complex of Hindu deities.

One who recites this Om Jai Shiv Omkara Aarti to the Lord gets rid of all problems and attains fulfillment of his heart’s desire.

Meaning: Being the Absolute, True being, Consciousness and Bliss, you play the roles of all the three Gods - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. As Vishnu, you have but one face, as Brahma four and as Shiva five. They gladden the sight of all who behold them. As Brahma you prefer the back of the swan for your seat, as Vishnu you like to ensconce yourself on the back of Garuda (A large mythological eagle - like bird believed to be the vehicle of Lord Vishnu) and as Shiva you make the sacred bull your conveyance; all these stand ready. O Great Lord, pray rid me of my afflictions!

दो भुज चार चतुर्भुज दसभुज अति सोहे ।

त्रिगुण रूप निरखते त्रिभुवन जन मोहे ॥

Meaning: As Brahma, you possess two arms, as Vishnu four and as Shiva (Dashabaahu) ten, all of which look matchlessly lovely. No sooner do the inhabitants of the three spheres behold you than they are all enchanted. O great Lord Omkaara, pray rid me of my afflictions.

अक्षमाला वनमाला मुण्डमाला धारी ।

त्रिपुरारी कंसारी कर माला धारी ॥

Akshaymala Vanmala Mundmala Dhari,

Chadan Mrigmad Sohai Bhale Shashi Dhari.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: You are, O great Lord Omkaara, wearing a garland of Rudraaksha, another of forest flowers the third of skulls; your forehead, glistening in the moonlight which it holds, is smeared with sandal-paste and musk. Pray rid me of my afflictions.

श्वेतांबर पीतांबर बाघंबर अंगे ।

सनकादिक गरुणादिक भूतादिक संगे ॥

Sankadik Garunadik Bhootadik Sange.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: O great Lord Omkaara, your body is attired in white and yellow silken clothes and in tiger skin, while in your company are troops of goblins, gods like Brahma and divine seers like Sanaka. Pray rid me of my afflictions.

कर के मध्य कमंडलु चक्र त्रिशूलधारी ।

सुखकारी दुखहारी जगपालन कारी ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Kar ke Mashya Kamandalu Chakra Trishooldhari,

Sukhkari Dukhhari Jag Palankari.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: O great Lord Omkaara, you hold akamandalu (the mendicants water-jar) in one of your hands and in another a trident; you bring joy to all, destroy all distress and sustain the whole world. May you rid me of all my afflictions!

ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव जानत अविवेका ।

प्रणवाक्षर में शोभित ये तीनों एका ॥

ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा

Brahma Vishnu Sadashiv Jaanat Aviveka,

Pranvaakshar me Shobhit Yah Tinon Eka.

Om Jai Shiv Omkara

Meaning: The ignorant (unwise and stupid) know Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as three individual gods, but they are all indistinguishably fused into a single mystic syllable ‘OM’. Pray rid me of my afflictions.

त्रिगुणस्वामी जी की आरति जो कोइ नर गावे ।

कहत शिवानंद स्वामी सुख संपति पावे ॥
